Steve Braunias celebrates the best of 2009
Best Blogger
Brian Edwards. Highlights in 2009 included his open contempt for the pro-smacking lobby, and his open contempt for Nigel Latta (although they buried the hatchet online and agreed to meet for coffee.) Edwards, the maestro, speaketh – and replyeth, to everyone who posts a comment – with the charm, wit and intelligence that he brought to New Zealand broadcasting for approximately 673 years.

Spotted it in the paper yesterday, well done! I’d consider praise from him to be pretty fantastic.

I’m also a huge fan of his writing. We may have to set up a mutual admiration society.

Not to mention modesty

Not to mention modesty
Quite. Can’t understand why he didn’t mention modesty.

Steve’s recommendation of your blog has caused me stay up well past my bedtime -look at the time ! -reading the first thread i came across ( Nigel Latta ) and good reading it was too. May I also say I love the pairing of you and Michelle Boag on afternoons. WHy so rarely these days ? It was such fun !

Nice one. But as Judy might be heard to say ‘get a room you two’.

A pity such a talented writer wastes his talents in such an appalling newspaper.

I’m inclined to agree, but then we don’t have a quality Sunday paper in New Zealand. On the other hand, Braunias (and Finlay McDonald) do raise the bar and I wouldn’t want to lose either of them. The thought of being restricted to the increasingly crazed ravings of Michael Laws fills me with dread.

In that case it is time you were scheduled to do an afternoon slot with Michael Laws on National Radio.

I doubt that that would appeal to either of us.

673?
“and replyeth, to everyone who posts a comment” ?
“open contempt” is a common theme. How do you feel about that?
Latta became rabid! Take Tux in yer pocket if you go for coffee, wear a good thorn-proof tweed, and carry a shooting stick.
Why wasn’t there an index in your book ‘Helen’? It might have made it more versatile as a research tool.
You’re always thought provoking – a bit like a friendly bull moose in a library
[That is NOT to suggest that you LOOK like one.]
Cheers!

You’re right about the Helen book. There should have been an index.
Steve’s use of the term “open contempt” is appropriate for my attitude to the pro-hitting lobby. I disagree strongly with Nigel Latta on some major issues, but “open contempt” would not be correct. By the way, we’ve never had that cup of coffee.

I suppose it helps if we agree with Brian Edwards; or is there an implication here that Brian Edwards makes a superior argument?

Don’t understand this. What does it refer to?
