Railing at the water cooler? In despair about the quality of our television news bulletins? Think you could do better with your monosyllabic nephew as camera operator and the pneumatic blonde from the dairy armed with a list of pre-prepared questions? You need Charlie Brooker’s How to Report the News. Enjoy!

I don’t think anyone would notice if they slipped this piece into the so called “news hour” – it looked so familiar! Thanks for finding this Judy.

Glad you enjoyed it. My son Quentin sent it to me and I fell about laughing – until I realised the awful truth of it!

Hi Judy
Thanks for this – it’s brilliant! I used it in a blog post on Radio New Zealand this morning. I acknowledged you.

Will you guys be commenting on the RNZ story – seems a natural for your fertile pens!

Thanks, Paul. Enjoyed the post – and it also reminded me that I can embed Utube material, which I’ve now done.

I heard about this a while ago, looked at it and thought they had just recorded a TVNZ or TV3 news bulletin and inserted it. Unfortunately and depressingly it is not in the least exaggerated. We have to endure this garbage nightly (although I do not, since I now only watch the news of TVNZ7 which appears to be produced without the help of the inhabitants of the chimpanzee enclosure at Auckland zoo).
Incidentally when I tried to look at this at work our web filter barred me with a message to the effect that I was not allowed to view offensive material. Sums it up really; even my work computer has better taste than most of the TVNZ audience.

Paul Reynolds has reminded me that I can embed Utube material, which I’ve done. That will save you the indignity of being scolded by your work computer!

Hilarious! First saw it on a link at the Sydney Morning Herald’s website.

I did not know the CEO of Telecom, Paul Reynolds, had his own blog. How’s the XT network, Paul? Have you engaged Brian and Judy to advise you on dealing with the media?

I did not know the CEO of Telecom, Paul Reynolds, had his own blog.
Two great men with but a single name. Paul Reynolds of McGovern Associates – computer geek, egghead, Scotsman and all-round good fellow. You may remember an on-going, long-distance radio flirtation with Kim Hill some years ago…

My apologies to Mr Reynolds. When I tried to open the link at work our web filter blocked it as unsuitable. I therefore jumped to the conclusion that it must be connected with Telecom and contain customer service messages from their call centre, resulting in our web filter having a seizure.

Love the Brooker.
The standard has his latest up as a post.

Repeat that clip six times in a row, go to an ad break, then to sports.
And we’d have the six o’clock news.
