You interviewed P.J. O’Rourke on Saturday 24 December 1994…
Good god, you know more about my life than I do. I suppose I could say that it was 19 years ago and that I interviewed 750 people on that show. But it would be a pretty pathetic excuse in view of my adamant denial. So I willingly apologise. You were right.
As a point of interest, ‘Top of the Morning’ began in August 1994 and ran for 5 years. I started keeping my interview notes for the programme the following year, so am sadly not in a position to look back on what I asked Mr O’Rourke. It’s true, however, that I have never read any of his books. I’m not a great book reader. But I had two brilliant researchers over the five years – Josie Harbutt (now Josie Pagani and famous in her own right) and Jane Dowell who successfully concealed my ignorance of matters literary to the end.
I shall take extra care before correcting you on matters of fact in the future.
